About the Designer

Mark Boone has always been intrigued with the idea of design, from his childhood beginnings building furniture in the family basement. His career began in Virginia, followed by a stint in Chicago working with the noteworthy furnishings company Baker, Knapp and Tubbs. Eventually, he fell in love with Los Angeles and became business partners with renowned interior and furniture designer Mimi London. Today, Boone designs many of the furnishings featured in their Pacific Design Center showroom and in six other locations across the country, with all of the pieces manufactured in his own local factory.

Known for their relaxed, organically inspired yet sophisticated interiors, the firm employs all-natural materials that take into account the worlds’ sensitive balance. Reclaimed wood and non-synthetic fabrics play a major role in every project. Boone’s own design vernacular is derived from an appreciation of clean, light, architecturally-inspired interiors. His projects have varied from sprawling ranches and ski chalets to cliff-hugging beach aeries.

Boone’s own residence was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest’s “Designer’s Own Home” issue (September 2002) and he is honored to be a member of the magazine’s prestigious AD 100 group, a listing of the world’s top architects and designers as selected by the editorial staff.

  1. In the January 2008 issue of AD, page 77. there is a picture of a dining room table. The comment to the side of the picture refers to “Boone’s Los Angeles dining room” and the AD September issue 2002. I have searched for information regarding the dining room table and found nothing. Do you have any information regarding the dining room table? I would be interested in purchasing the table.

    Thank you.

  2. Hello there, Duane. Thank you for your comment. The table that you saw is actually an antique French wine tasting table from the 1870’s. The center gateleg pivots; allowing the oval top to fold flat– making for efficient use of limited space in a wine cellar.

  3. Thank you so much for that information. My sister in New York wishes to find the table for the house she is having renovated. I will research it now more on line in the meantime if you know of someplace to acquire a table like it, either antique or a reproduction I would appreciate that information also, thanks again!

  4. I purchased that table from “Hideaway House Antiques”, located in Pasadena. Their phone number is 626.356.3100. They’re a great source for English and French antiques. Good luck!

  5. HI Mark,
Is there anyway to get in touch with you over the phone?

  6. Hi Mark, I am an American architect living in Italy with my Italian architect wife. We have just started to represent a wonderful company here in Northern Italy that makes the most beautiful authentic antique wood flooring. It’s a product that requires that 80% of the work be done by hand because the old wood requres lots of cleaning and careful preparation and thus it becomes expensive compared to the typical wood flooring on the market. You can see their web site here http://www.pavimentiantichi.com/eng/index.asp My question and I hope you don’t mind answering is are there clients willing to pay the kind of prices required to have a product like this. I’ll tell you that the prices will range from $17 to $50 per square foot plus shipping. This product does sell very well in Europe.

    Thank you, John

  7. HI Mark!
I saw the article in the VaTech Alum magazine. Congrat’s to you! It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years. Glad to “see” what you’re up to!!
    All my best,
    Lynne

  8. Hi Mark,

I have been interested in architectural design since I was very young and am considering going to school to get a degree. I have worked in the constrction field to gain knowledge about building practices and materials. Three years building and installing custom cabinets, one year in electrical instalation, and five years in custom home building. There are alot of schools out there and they all say there the best. so i am wondering if you have any recommendations for a good school to attend. Any thing would help

Thanks alot and have a great day!

  9. Hi Mark
I just read the article in the fall 2008 VaTech mag..Congrats on your outrageous success! It has been many years and I feel as though I have been under a rock when reading about all your accomplishments. Would love to hear from you. Funny thing is that I still have the program from the Roanoke Gala, and to this day still make the spinach balls with dry mustard recipe!!
Now if that doesn’t take you way back.

  10. Andrew, I attended Virginia Tech. Their architecture and design program is ranked among the best in the U.S. If you search “Virginia Tech Magazine”, there is a new article about my education there and subsequent career path. Good luck!

  11. Elke, Great to hear from you! Your comment made me chuckle. My assistant gave me an email that was sent to our company’s general mailbox– which I think included your number, I’ll ask her for it and will give a call to say hello.

  12. Hi Mark–

I love the lamp behind your signature in the image on the top of the page. I think that I saw it featured years ago in AD. What is the name so that I can obtain a price from the showroom?

    Best,
    Tim

  13. Hello, Tim.
The lamp is made of spruce and can be done in many differenct finishes. In the photo, it’s in “English Pine” finish. The shade is natural ivory linen. It’s called the “Column Lamp”. Call my showroom at 310.855.2567 and we’ll be happy to get you more information.
    Thank you!
    -Mark Boone

  14. Hi Mark,
I saw your work for the Greenroom at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Great job!
I am planning a “wow” Birthday event for some very spoiled New Yorkers and need something elegant but not too stuffy. Any ideas?
We are an exclusive company devoted to Birthdays
    only.

  15. If you and your partner Mimi London have a video of furniture being made using former barn timbers and siding I would be happy to recommend your designs on our website.
I am sensitive to Environmental issues and I feel your work is a good example of respecting our planet.
You can E-mail the URL and anything you want to say about the furniture. This would make a nice birthday gift for a “green” client.

    Thank you,
    Cheryle
